Why I purchased it:
I’m trying to build my raised bed soil quality via chop-and-drop of cover crops. This was my cover crop of choice this year, mainly due to the amount of biomass this is supposed to produce by late winter.

My Review:
Rye seeds are surprisingly large, yet light. That makes for a large bag of seeds when the bag holds 5 pounds. Germination seems to be around 85% or so, which likely would have been a bit higher had I bothered to stick to any sort of consistent watering schedule, which I didn’t, so that’s not a knock against the product. Homesteader Hobbies is the brand by the way. At the time of this review the rye grass is about six inches tall or so, I can see it from over 200 feet away and it is a nice bright shade of green even after a week of freezing temperatures so I think this’ll do the job. Regarding coverage, my raised garden beds have about 550 square feet of plantable area, which this could likely cover roughly twice over.

Pros:
* covers a lot of area
* very green and lively even after a week of temperatures in the mid 20’s
* decent germination in spite of the gardener being lazy

Cons:
* none really? I mean it’s a big bag of seeds
