Welcome to Harvestheim. I’m here making gardening mistakes so that you don’t have to.

My goal is to document the things that I’ve learned about gardening so that others can see what worked and didn’t work for me. I hope that this information is useful, if not at least it can be entertaining.

For NW Ohio, first frost is expected on October 22.

Cole crops (so, Brassica family vegetables) such as Kale, Cabbage, Broccoli, and Brussel Sprouts will hang on for a bit longer. Plants in the Allium family like Garlic and Shallots should be planted as soon as possible.

Though bittersweet, first frost also means apples are ripe, pumpkins and winter squash are ready to be stored for the winter, and we can soon look forward to mead and wassail for the holiday season. Then it’s time to be off to the races once again to get next year’s garden planned.
