Would I recommend it?: Yes

Why I purchased it:
I planted dwarf apple trees this autumn and needed a good bypass pruner so that I can properly take care of them as they grow, bypass pruners are objectively just better than the anvil style pruners which cause far more damage making the cuts and I want to baby these trees as much as possible. This brand came recommended by Orin Martin, the Master Orchardist at the UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology, and if it’s good enough for him who am I to question it.

My Review:
Oh yeah, Orin knows his stuff all right. This pruner is pretty fantastic: it feels good in the hand, sturdy, sharp, and well machined. Maintenance is easy too, it takes about 30 seconds to sharpen using the SHARPAL 105N Multipurpose Pocket Garden Tool Blade Sharpener after a quick wipe-down. Ironically, the apple trees are just about the only thing in the yard that I haven’t pruned yet with this pruner (not quite time yet). For the quality I feel that these are quite reasonably priced, but if you really need to pinch your pennies something a bit cheaper would work until you could afford to upgrade. I really appreciate being able to just squeeze the handles together to unlock the pruner.

Pros:
* comfortable to use
* will last quite awhile if maintained
* tension controlled locking clip and spring combo make unlocking the pruners and then pruning branches in rapid succession a breeze

Cons:
* more costly than other brands
